$1000 College Scholarship Winner

“Although I had a virtual high school graduation, receiving the $1000 Fund My Future Scholarship to help me with my admission to CCAC was one of the best things that happened during COVID-19 .” Miss. Mariyah Hester

June 2020, Mariyah Hester received her $1000 Fund My Future Scholarship after graduating from Plum Senior High School. She chose to use her $1000 to apply towards her admission to CCAC Boyce Campus, where she plans to major in Business Entrepreneurship.

In February 2019, Ms. Mary Hester (Mariyah’s mom) received a mailer about Fund My Future from the Hill District Federal Credit Union (her financial institution). She looked into the program and thought it was a great idea. She joined Fund My Future and made deposits into Mariyah’s savings account in February and March.

In March, when Mary received her raffle ticket, little did she know, she was holding the winning ticket!  On April 1, the Fund My Future team contacted Mary to inform her that she was a $2000 winner providing she submit proof of a deposit into Mariyah’s account in March of at least $1. Upon verification, Mary was eligible to receive a portion of the $2000 (which was a special promotion) and the remainder would be deposited into a scholarship with the NEED Scholarship Foundation for Mariyah to use for college or trade school.

Currently, Mariyah works part-time at a grocery store. Now that she is 18 years old, she decided to open a checking and savings account with S&T Bank. She asked questions when she was not clear about certain products and fees. Overall, Mariyah felt very confident when she opened her own account.

She is so happy that her mother chose to join Fund My Future.

Propel Braddock Hills High School Fund My Future Graduate

Meet Fund My Future participant Miss. Amari Walker and her mom Ms. Cynthia Walker. In September 2017 Amari transferred to Propel Braddock Hills High School and  made her first deposit into her Fund My Future savings account. Throughout her high school years, Amari continued to make deposits during her in-school bank days, which were every Thursday. Although she missed a few deposit days, the habit of saving was being established.
While attending Propel Braddock Hills High School, Amari attended Point Park University Program where she took college classes and earned college credits. She also attended Pittsburgh University Women’s Equity Program and the Assemble STEM Program for summer work. Amari has also mentored young girls at Gwen Girls and she is a 2020 NEED Scholarship recipient. In her spare time Amari enjoys arts, reading and writing.

Now that Amari has graduated from Propel Braddock Hills High School, she plans to attend Indiana University Program where she will major in Journalism. Ahmari currently has her own personal account with First National Bank where she continues to practice the healthy habit of saving.
