PROUD DAD WINS $1000

“This is one of the best things you could ever do for your child’s future; with the price of college sky rocketing, the opportunity to get a jump on tuition is key. This tool is a game changer; from reminders to savings and everything in between, all parents should take advantage of a company that wants to see your child advance in life.” –  Dennis

Dennis, a resident of Pittsburgh, is hard working dad with a packed schedule — he works full-time, volunteers with his wife in community events, and is an active member of a softball team and a coach for a youth football team.

Dennis is so busy that he overlooked the email from Fund My Future informing him of his $1000 win. It wasn’t until the second attempt of Ms. Corinealdi reaching out to him that he found out that he won $1000. This was music to his ears because his daughter is currently a senior at Oakland Catholic High School preparing to attend an HBCU. Both daughter and dad are actively pursuing college scholarship opportunities and this Fund My Future win came at a perfect time. Especially because his daughter just turned 18, which is the Fund My Future age limit.

Dennis first heard about Fund My Future while volunteering with his wife at a Hill District community event in the summer of 2019. He was checking out all the vendors, when he came across the bright green Fund My Future table filled with fun swag. He decided to stop and after hearing a complete explanation from Ms. Corinealdi, it seemed to be in-line with college, so he immediately signed up.

After signing up, he started receiving regular messages reminding him to save. Although Dennis was already saving for his daughter, it wasn’t until he enrolled in Fund My Future that he actually opened an account in her name. Dennis is no stranger to saving; he started saving for himself at age 20, when he decided he wanted to save for a home. By the time he was 24 he purchased his first home, which is now his rental property.

He is so excited to be a Fund My Future winner during his last phase with Fund My Future as his daughter is his youngest child. He truly feels like this was a blessing and has told all of his family members to enroll in this program. He said he’s going to tell this to everyone he meets because this is a WIN WIN for everyone!

Fund My Future is Moving

We are so EXCITED to inform you that Fund My Future is in the process of transitioning to another organization. In that move, Fund My Future will be BIGGER and BETTER. Ms. Corinealdi will have a different email but her phone number 412-514-3257 will remain the same. Keep an eye out for more details to come!

FMF 3-Part Series WINNER

“Give your child a head start on a solid financial future!” – James

Meet James, a Penn Hills dad who recently won $50 in the February Fund My Future raffle drawing. James learned about Fund My Future through the Homewood Brushton Family Support Center in December of 2020. He was a part of the “Fathers Trying Together Program” led by Mr. Neil Walker. Early in November, Mr. Walker provided the fathers with information about Fund My Future and the benefits of saving for their children. As an incentive from the family support center, every father who attended all three sessions would receive an initial $25 start-up deposit for each child. Although James found the initial deposit offer to be attractive, the thought of giving his child a financial jump start was even more persuasive.

After attending all three sessions, James felt more informed about the various children’s savings products that financial institutions had to offer. He then decided to save for his child through a credit union associated with his employer. Setting up the account was easy and he also made his monthly deposits automatic; this way he would never miss a chance to win.

On March 2nd he received a phone call from Ms. Corinealdi, notifying him that he was a winner. He was both excited and grateful for that phone call. He could not believe how quickly he won. He’s very proud to be saving long-term for his 7-year-old daughter and truly grateful that he attended the series to learn more about saving. Now he’s sharing this information with everyone he knows.

I Completed The Three-Part Saving Series

Meet Mark, a single father of 11-year-old Elijah. Mark completed the Fund My Future Three-Part Saving Series in December 2020. He was a participant of the first cohort hosted by the Homewood Early Learning Hub and Family Center, where he is involved in the Fathers’ Program.

Mark first heard about the Fund My Future Saving Series through an email he received from the Homewood Early Learning Hub and Family Center. It automatically sparked his interest when he saw that he would be attending three separate sessions to learn about saving. In his first session, “All About Fund My Future,” he learned about saving for his child and receiving chances to win up to $1000 and he immediately signed up for that. Then there was the second session “Intro to Savings,” where he received information from representatives from the Hill District Federal Credit Union and the Pennsylvania State Treasury. This information included options of saving at a credit union and PA529. In his final session he heard from a financial counselor from the Financial Empowerment Center and found out how he could get free one-on-one financial counseling. He also received information on how he could receive his free credit reports during the pandemic. All of these resources he received for FREE!!! As an added incentive, The Homewood Early Learning Hub and Family Center also agreed to make the initial $25 deposit into whichever savings vehicle any of their families chose for their children.

Mark set aside time to attend every session held on Tuesday evenings from 6pm – 7pm. He’s glad that he did because although he was currently saving for his son, he felt the sessions were very informative and he now has a better understanding of how his son can better manage the money he makes when he works with him on various odd jobs. Mark is dedicated to spreading the word to his family and those in his community. He recently contacted Ms. Corinealdi to let her know that his son’s school is interested in hosting a Fund My Future Three-Part Series for families. He is truly excited to be a part of the Fund My Future movement and thinks every family should incorporate saving into their regular habits. He always talks to his son about saving and will use the information he learned to help his son manage his money so that when he gets older he will have developed the habit of saving and managing money.

Minimum $10 Deposit = $1000 Winner

Just do it! Every little bit helps. I never thought I could win and look at me, I won!”

Stefani was on her way to look at an apartment when she received a voice message on her phone. She decided to check the message, thinking it might be something about the apartment. But it was a message from Ms. Corinealdi of Fund My Future stating that she was a $1000 winner. She listened to it again to be sure of what she heard. By now she thought she had won but still wasn’t sure. She told her family and friends and they were all questioning this so-called win.

Stefani decided to complete the survey after responding to the voicemail, thinking to herself that she would prove everyone wrong because she remembered signing up for Fund My Future through Pennsylvania Treasury’s Keystone Scholars.

After Stefani enrolled in Fund My Future, she opened a PA529 for her baby with a minimum opening deposit of $10. She figured $10 was something that she could do every month and decided to set up automatic monthly deposits. Although she didn’t start saving for herself until she was in high school, starting at birth for her child was something she was excited to do, so her child will be better prepared than she was.

After receiving the check in the mail, she knew it was real and couldn’t wait to tell her family and friends. Now she’s hoping that they will sign up and take advantage of this amazing saving opportunity.

$1 Deposit = $1000 Winner

Even if you can’t save a lot every month, it’s important to save something. Every little bit helps. Look at the difference a dollar made!”

Shortly after Janette’s daughter was born, she received a $100 gift from her grandpa, and used it as an initial deposit in a new savings account for her daughter. She didn’t make any more deposits until receiving a mailer in November 2020 from the Pennsylvania Treasury about their Keystone Scholars program and Fund My Future. She did her research and decided to join. Since a $1 minimum deposit is required to be eligible to win each month, she decided to make a single $1 deposit into the new account she had recently opened.

On December 1st she received an email from Fund My Future that read “Congratulations, You Are A Winner.” It stopped her in her tracks; she wasn’t sure if it was real. However, when she received the phone call from Ms. Corinealdi congratulating her on her win and reminding her to complete the survey, she was convinced.

She thought back on how she had opened the account a few months ago and was overjoyed to know that she made the choice to make the $1 deposit which in-turn made her a $1000 winner. Thinking back, she was grateful she received the mailer and took the time to join Fund My Future and take the pledge, never thinking that she would be a $1000 winner.

Happy New Year

$1000 Winner Story

“We are so grateful for Fund My Future – by teaching us to save for our children’s future, you can not only win great prizes, but it helps provide opportunities for our children to go to school that we would not have been able to without their generous support!” – Steven

Congratulations to Steven, our November $1000 Allegheny County winner! Steven received the Congratulations phone call from Community Outreach Director, Toni Corinealdi on December 1st and he was speechless. He could not believe that he had won because he never thought that this could ever happen to him.

Steven recently enrolled in Fund My Future while attending a virtual financial aid night that his children’s guidance counselor organized through their school.

Steven considers himself a late bloomer when it comes to saving because he never learned about it growing up. It wasn’t until approximately 15 years ago that he started saving for his own retirement because that’s what was suggested at that time.

As a husband and father of three children, Steven initially started saving for his children when they were in elementary and middle school through a PA529 because he had realized  that he should shift his focus from retirement to college savings due the exorbitant costs associated with a college education. Now with his oldest, currently a high school senior and the other two in middle school, enrolling in Fund My Future just made sense to him and his wife.

Now that Steven has won $1000, he decided to split the winnings between all three of his children so they can all have a little extra in all their accounts. What a beautiful gift and wonderful way to bring in the New Year!

A Mom Shares her $50 Winner Story

“You are what you do consistently. Once you get started, you’ll become an avid saver and if at first you don’t succeed, try, try, try again!” Jolisa

Congratulations to Joelisa, a Fund My Future $50 November winner who is saving for her son, Aaron. Joelisa initially heard about Fund My Future a few years ago through Urban Academy Charter School and later decided to enroll on her own. Because Joelisa is no stranger to saving, joining Fund My Future was a no brainer to her because it seemed like an opportunity to win.

Joelisa began saving for Aaron while she was pregnant. Both her and Aaron’s dad started saving by depositing change in an empty “Pretzel Bucket” from Sam’s Club and they filled it all the way up!
When Aaron was little, Joelisa was adamant about taking him to the bank with her to be sure to include him in the saving process. She believes he appreciated that experience because as of now he’s saved a total of $1,659.23.

Although Joelisa engages with Fund My Future, it wasn’t until she saw Second Lady Giselle Fetterman congratulating Fund My Future participants at a recognition event, that she felt that she was part of something big and felt a sense of pride for what she was already doing. She was so proud and couldn’t wait to tell all her friends about this opportunity to save.

Joelisa grew up in subsidized housing and had dreams of one day being a homeowner. At the age of 21, Joelisa started planning for her future by saving for a home and by the age 23 she purchased her first home. She is a Point Park Graduate with a Bachelor Degree in Broadcast and Journalism.

After joining Fund My Future, Joelisa started receiving the Fund My Future communications which she found very insightful and now she is so excited and happy to have finally won!

A Grandma Shares her $50 Winner Story

“Fund My Future has made savings FUN again and I feel like I am winning!” –  Sharon

Congratulations to Sharon a Pittsburgh grandma of two who won twice with FMF. Her first winning was a $100 gift card when she first joined Fund My Future and now she’s a November $50 winner. Sharon is really excited about winning for saving and finds it really fun!  She started saving for her now 6 year old grandson, Xavier three years ago in a homemade piggy bank of which he still has. Sharon always thought savings was important and finally decided to join Fund my Future to introduce her grandson to savings. Sharon’s parents never talked to her about savings nor did she instill saving habits in her children. However, with the birth of her grandson, she chose to do things different and decided to start the conversations about savings with her grandson.

When Sharon first joined Fund My Future she was working in corporate america. Funds were flowing regularly and she was able to deposit modest amounts though direct deposits and things were going well. However, when she transitioned to launch her own business it became more challenging to make regular larger deposits. But because she has committed to saving, even if her monthly deposit is only $10, she will make sure it gets deposited because she believes the most important thing being developed is the habit, not the amount.

A Holiday Message to Families

$1000 Winner Story

“It’s really exciting to have this gift serve as part of the foundation toward setting our children up for success. It’s inspired us and encourage family members to contribute to it this holiday season” — Erin.

Congratulations to Erin, our October Fund My Future $1000 Winner and mother of two! Erin learned about Fund My Future through the Pennsylvania 529 website. When she saw the link to take the PA Savings Pledge. It made sense for her to take the pledge, it was simple and straight forward on a website she trusted.

Before joining Fund My Future, Erin was saving for her children in a PA 529, which she learned about in her role as a financial educator. But there was something about receiving the Fund My Future monthly reminders that had Erin focusing more on the importance of saving for her children. These reminders gave her reasons to amp up saving because she was only making periodic deposits, including birthday and special occasion deposits—but now that she is a Fund My Future participant, she makes regular monthly deposits. Erin appreciates the monthly Fund My Future reminder emails and phone calls. She compared the reminder phone calls to monthly motivational messages that remind her of what she’s doing for her children.

When Erin received the phone call informing her that she was a $1000 winner, the feeling of winning took a while to settle in. At first, she was hesitant and in disbelief because it seemed too good to be true. But, soon, she started to get excited.

Now that she is a $1000 Winner, she has been spreading the word about Fund My Future. She tells her friends and family and also the daycare staff and families where her children attend. She is now excited about saving. As a financial educator, she knows the importance of saving. She believes that no amount is too small to start; sometimes, we are not good at saving for ourselves, but when we save for our children, the message gets through, and saving gets done.

I’m Still a Winner

Shavon has been a Fund My Future participant since January 2019. She heard about the program through a family member, whose Fund My Future piggy bank caught her attention. She went on to do research and decided to join the program because she was already saving at home in several piggy banks for her daughter.

After joining, she met with Ms. Toni Corinealdi at the Key Bank in East Liberty to open her daughter’s first savings account. She wanted to include her daughter in the experience, so her daughter accompanied her to the bank.

After joining Fund My Future and receiving monthly reminders, Shavon has committed to making monthly in-person deposits into her daughter’s savings account. Both her and her daughter take time every month to sit down and roll coins from her piggy bank and then make bank deposits. By including her daughter in this routine, she knows how much is going into her bank account. This interaction makes Shavon feel good, knowing that she is doing something good for her daughter’s future.  Although her daughter is only six years old, she feels like a big girl because she saves money. Ever since receiving her first bank statement, she regularly checks with mom to see if she received any mail.

For Shavon, being part of Fund My Future is about doing something good for her child and seeing her eyes light up when they count the money from her piggy bank. She feels like her daughter is getting a jump start and getting something she didn’t have as a child. Shavon believes that her daughter is the first child in her generation to have a savings account in her name, and because of that, she is already a winner!

Meet a Two Times Winner!

“Fund My Future has been a bright spot during an unsure time”  Cindy

Meet Cindy, one of our two-time Fund My Future winners! In July 2020, Cindy was a $50 winner and didn’t even know it. She was packing and moving into her new home and didn’t get a chance to check her email, nor did she get a chance to listen to the Fund My Future message. However, by October 1, she was situated. That’s when she received another email notifying her that she was a $1000 Winner for September.

When she received that email, she completed the survey. Then she received a phone call from Fund My Future Clerk, Michele Gronsky.  Michele was going over her survey, as she usually does with anyone who completes a survey. However, in this particular case, Michele noticed that Cindy did not finish her survey for July. Michele asked if there was a reason for that, and Cindy explained the situation. Because everyone has 6 months to respond, Cindy was able to complete the survey and submit her verification, and low and behold, she was also a confirmed July Winner!

Cindy said, being automatically enrolled contributions to her child’s saving, which made her eligible for a chance to win. She initially found out about Fund My Future from being enrolled in the Pennsylvania Keystone Scholars, which she joined around her child’s first birthday. Cindy noticed a Fund My Future banner on the website and decided to click on it. She read all of the details about Fund My Future. She thought this would be a great addition to what she was already doing, and she IMMEDIATELY signed up!

Both mom and dad’s families contribute to their daughter’s savings account on birthdays, holidays, and special occasions. Their daughter knows about her financial account, and she even knows they won twice. During Cindy’s college days, she had to take out financial loans. From that experience, she personally knows how expensive education can be. Both mom and dad want to soften that approach for her daughter. They both feel that it is essential that their daughter has life savings to help with her future goals.

During the Pandemic, the thought of not being able to continue saving for their daughter crossed their minds, but fortunately, that didn’t happen.

Cindy still can’t believe that she won! She admitted when she first saw the email, which read CONGRATULATIONS, YOU ARE A WINNER, she thought it was a scam. But that has all changed. She received her portions of the check for $50 and $500. The remaining $500 was mailed to the PA Treasury to be deposited into her daughter’s savings.

We are excited to tell her story of being a double winner!

Another Historic First for PA!

PA Treasury’s Keystone Scholars Child Development Account

Pennsylvania has the distinction of being the home of many impressive “firsts!”

  •  The first circulation library was founded by Benjamin Franklin in Philadelphia in 1731.
  • The Pennsylvania Packet and Daily Advertiser was the first successful newspaper in the country.
  • Pennsylvania is home to America’s First University (the University of Pennsylvania).
  • The first nursing school was in PA, as was the first graduate school for women!

From its beginning, the Keystone State has cultivated a strong belief in education’s power and the opportunities it brings. And now, in 2019, Pennsylvania added yet another first:

PA created the first legislated universal at-birth Child Development Account( CDA) in the nation! The program is known as Keystone Scholars. Today, it has quickly grown to be one of the largest child development accounts in the country!

What’s Keystone Scholars All About?

PA Treasury automatically provides $100 for every baby born to PA resident on/after January 1, 2019, or subsequently adopted. This means if your child was born after January 1, 2019, Treasury has created an account for your child. It is already invested in a PA 529 Guaranteed Savings Plan.

Here is what new parents need to know about the new Keystone Scholars:

  • The $100 is invested in a PA 529 Guaranteed Savings Plan and grows for 18 years.
  • Can be used for qualified higher education expenses between ages 18 to 29.
  • New and expectant parents can sign up at pa529.com/keystone
  • Watch for mail from the PA Treasury that will include information on how to access your child’s account with information from your child’s birth certificate

It takes minutes to register. You only need:

  1. The child’s zip code used to register for your child’s PA birth certificate.
  2. Child’s date of birth.
  3. Child’s birth certificate file number (included in Treasury letter)

Families may open and save for their child in their own PA 529 account and link it to their Keystone Scholars account. This is a great way to jumpstart savings! So smart!

Believing in education and the need to support Pennsylvanians has always paid off. Pennsylvanians have patented and created many things including:

  •  First successful oil well
  • First steamboat
  • First locomotive for railroad use
  • First water pumping station
  • First company-owned service station

Keystone Scholars continues the tradition of supporting every child’s educational opportunities by jumpstarting savings and creating a higher education identity for all children. In addition, families registering their Keystone Scholars account can take the PA Savings Pledge to add to their savings. PA Treasury partnered with Fund My Future to launch the Pledge offers families who have taken the Pledge the opportunity for winning one of the more than $5000 in monthly prizes.

Could your child be the next inspiring inventor, scientist, doctor, landscaper, or artist?

Meet Our August 2020 Winner!

“Fund My Future was just a shining beam of positivity and we ware truly grateful that we were able to share it with our family. I believe that Fund My Future is one of Pennsylvania’s Best Kept Secrets”  Rebecca

Rebecca joined Fund My Future in April 2020 and became a Fund My Future $1000 Winner in August 2020. Seventeen months earlier both she and her husband became brand new parents. When their bundle of joy arrived they started looking for ways to start saving for their child’s future and low and behold, they received a flyer in the mail from the Pennsylvania Treasurer’s Keystone Scholar’s Program. Rebecca decided to look into the program and thought it was a great opportunity to start saving for her little one’s education. She completed the online form and received the $100 deposit into her child’s Keystone Scholar’s account and then she saw the Fund My Future information on the same website. She clicked on the Fund My Future link and took the PA Savings Pledge, giving her a chance to win.

After taking the PA Savings Pledge, she received information from Fund My Future. She said she enjoyed scrolling through all the photos of winners in the Monthly Spotlight Newsletters. When COVID-19 shut things down, Fund My Future offered families alternative ways to win. Rebecca was moved by this, making her feel like she was a member of an organization that truly cares for their families. Since winning, Rebecca has been spreading the word about Fund My Future.

With college prices being so expensive, Rebecca wants to save for her children. In addition to her $500 winning being deposited into her child’s PA529 account, Rebecca is also going to deposit her portion of the winnings ($500) into her child’s PA529, making the total amount deposited into her child’s account $1000!

Meet our July $1000 Winner

“I’m happy to be a part of Fund My Future for my daughter Anajah’s education and I’m looking forward to enrolling my youngest daughter and get her savings started early” Ms. Nikia Pitts

Ms. Nikia Pitts joined Fund My Future in the Spring of 2019 at an event hosted by Lincoln PreK-5 Elementary School where her 9-year-old daughter Anajah attends. During the event, Ms. Pitts visited all tables, but there was something about the Fund My Future table that stood out to her.

After learning more about Fund My Future and the fact that she could win by making a deposit of at least $1, she figured, she should take care of it right now. She enrolled and later went on to open a savings account for Anajah but never thought that she would actually win.

She started receiving Fund My Future correspondences including phone calls, newsletters, and monthly reminders to make deposits. She said in July she was really happy to get the reminder because it prompted her to reinstate her daughter’s account, which was closed due to her losing her wallet. So she made a simple phone call to her bank and had the funds deposited, not thinking she would win but happy to get the reminder to get back on track which is something she had planned on doing but with COVID-19 occurring it slipped her mind.

Then on August 3rd, she received the email and phone call she would never forget! SHE WAS A $1000 WINNER! She could not believe she won. Ms. Pitts says she will include her daughter when she makes in-person bank deposits. This has been a wonderful experience for Ms. Pitts and she plans on making deposits every month.

Meet our June $1000 Winner

“It was a blessing to know that I had Fund My Future’s support to encourage me to continue to save during the pandemic. Now that we’ve won, it made a huge difference in our future.” Ms. Shawntae Haywood

Ms. Shawntae Haywood joined Fund My Future in July 2019 while attending a family night program at the Hill District Westley Center Afterschool Program. There were a variety of community vendors in attendance but for some reason, Fund My Future caught her attention. As she made her way over to the bright green table, she was greeted by Ms.Toni Corinealdi, the FMF Outreach Director. After listening to the very passionate presentation she immediately signed up because she wanted to save for her son Anthony who was 6 years old at the time.

A week after joining, she received a reminder phone call from Ms. Corinealdi and they discussed the various options of starting Anthony’s savings account. She decided to go with the Hill District Federal Credit Union located in her community. When she opened her son’s account and made the first deposit, the feeling of completion was indescribable. Now all she had to do was make monthly deposits of which she made sure was at least $5.

Everything seemed to be going perfectly. She was making her deposits, checking her raffle ticket but then all of a sudden the COVID-19 Pandemic hit, and everything shut down. Because of a statewide stay-at-home order, she could not leave her home. She was saddened by this and thought that Fund My Future had shut down and chalked everything up as a loss. But then she heard a “ding” on her phone, it was an email from Fund My Future with a SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT REPORT. She listened intensely as Ms. Corinealdi announced that Fund My Future was operating. There was a new promotion called “New Ways to Win” that allowed Ms. Haywood to participate by submitting monthly Fund My Future photos. She immediately followed the directions and took advantage of the opportunity.

Although she didn’t win during the 3-month promotion, she stayed engaged with the program. When the stay-at-home order was lifted, she returned to her credit union to continue making deposits. On July 1, she received an email message: “You are holding a Winning Ticket”. Ms. Haywood was excited. She finally won! She was informed that she was a $1000 Winner. Filled with excitement, she completed the survey. Shortly after, she received her check for $500 and established a PA529 College Savings Plan for her son. With the additional $500, she plans to use it to assist with her daycare business.

Ms. Haywood is no stranger to saving and winning. In April of 2020, she enrolled in Pittsburgh Saves, which she heard about through Fund My Future, and won $200. Her most recent savings consisted of her enrolling her young daughter into Keystone Scholars and receiving $100 towards college savings.

Ms. Haywood feels great knowing that both her children have a future ahead of them and Fund My Future is helping to make it possible.

Meet our $1000 Partner Recipient

It’s never too late to share some good news. Back in November 2019, Fund My Future held the “Spirit of Giving” Promotion, where Fund My Future donated matched winnings to a non-profit organization of the winner’s choice? Well, here’s what happened when Tracy Copeland won $1000 from making her November deposit.

Ms. Copeland was our $1000 November Winner and she chose to donate her matched winnings of $1000 to Save A Life Today Pittsburgh (S.A.L.T) a nonprofit organization founded by Executive Director, Sister Mary Williams. S.A.L.T offers a broad range of services from free dental care, eye care, and free glasses. They also host back to school drives, food giveaways, and family engagements.

Sister Mary Williams was excited and grateful to FMF for hosting the unique promotion. Her exact words in reference to her organization receiving the $1000, “It came at a wonderful time!”. Every year S.A.L.T hosts a Christmas program that accommodates over 700 families from McKees Rocks and surrounding communities. Families come together to interact with other families and exchange gifts.

We are happy that Ms.Copeland gifted her winnings to a local organization that helps families.

For more information about S.A.L.T contact Sister Mary Williams at 412-712-4044 or visit their Facebook page at Save a Life Today Pittsburgh.

$1000 College Scholarship Winner

“Although I had a virtual high school graduation, receiving the $1000 Fund My Future Scholarship to help me with my admission to CCAC was one of the best things that happened during COVID-19 .” Miss. Mariyah Hester

June 2020, Mariyah Hester received her $1000 Fund My Future Scholarship after graduating from Plum Senior High School. She chose to use her $1000 to apply towards her admission to CCAC Boyce Campus, where she plans to major in Business Entrepreneurship.

In February 2019, Ms. Mary Hester (Mariyah’s mom) received a mailer about Fund My Future from the Hill District Federal Credit Union (her financial institution). She looked into the program and thought it was a great idea. She joined Fund My Future and made deposits into Mariyah’s savings account in February and March.

In March, when Mary received her raffle ticket, little did she know, she was holding the winning ticket!  On April 1, the Fund My Future team contacted Mary to inform her that she was a $2000 winner providing she submit proof of a deposit into Mariyah’s account in March of at least $1. Upon verification, Mary was eligible to receive a portion of the $2000 (which was a special promotion) and the remainder would be deposited into a scholarship with the NEED Scholarship Foundation for Mariyah to use for college or trade school.

Currently, Mariyah works part-time at a grocery store. Now that she is 18 years old, she decided to open a checking and savings account with S&T Bank. She asked questions when she was not clear about certain products and fees. Overall, Mariyah felt very confident when she opened her own account.

She is so happy that her mother chose to join Fund My Future.

Propel Braddock Hills High School Fund My Future Graduate

Meet Fund My Future participant Miss. Amari Walker and her mom Ms. Cynthia Walker. In September 2017 Amari transferred to Propel Braddock Hills High School and  made her first deposit into her Fund My Future savings account. Throughout her high school years, Amari continued to make deposits during her in-school bank days, which were every Thursday. Although she missed a few deposit days, the habit of saving was being established.
While attending Propel Braddock Hills High School, Amari attended Point Park University Program where she took college classes and earned college credits. She also attended Pittsburgh University Women’s Equity Program and the Assemble STEM Program for summer work. Amari has also mentored young girls at Gwen Girls and she is a 2020 NEED Scholarship recipient. In her spare time Amari enjoys arts, reading and writing.

Now that Amari has graduated from Propel Braddock Hills High School, she plans to attend Indiana University Program where she will major in Journalism. Ahmari currently has her own personal account with First National Bank where she continues to practice the healthy habit of saving.
